How to Care for Your Skin in the Winter

Winter is here. In most places, whether it snows or not, the weather is colder and drier, something that has a great impact on skin. It’s very important to take care of your skin during the winter months with the right habits and products.

We tend to switch out many products from the summer to prepare for the winter, but you may be surprised to know that many of the products that you might tend to use in warm weather are necessary even in the winter. SPF, serums, and hydration are just as important in the colder months as they are in the summer. Here are a few things to keep in mind this winter for taking good care of your skin!

Stay Hydrated. Lack of hydration seems to be the biggest problem when it comes to dry or dull skin in the winter. Drinking water is necessary to stay hydrated, but using a humidifier when indoors can also be a great way to keep your skin hydrated in the winter. It increases the moisture level in the air, so keeping it in a room you spend the most time in can be very useful.

Adjust your Cleansing Routine. Using less abrasive cleansers in the winter is important in order to prevent your skin from drying out too much or losing its protective barrier. However, you should still continue to exfoliate in moderation. It’s also important to pay attention to your shower routine. Using very hot water can be damaging as it takes away natural oils in the skin, so lukewarm water is a better option. Spending too much time in the shower can also take away important oils and lead to dryer skin.

It is important to ‘buff’ your skin with the right cleansing routine, before applying any products on top, so that they work effectively.

Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. Keeping your skin hydrated and preventing dry and flaky skin can all be achieved with the right moisturizing products. Using a moisturizer right after cleansing your skin can help lock in a great amount of moisture. You can check out our moisturizing products at Fiera like the Fiera Apple Cream for your winter hydration needs.

Serums. Our skin can get attacked by free radicals which can lead to sunspots and the breakdown of collagen. This can be prevented with the right serum. Our Fiera Citrus Serum can be just the serum you need year-round.

SPF! Sunscreen isn’t just for the summer. It is important to keep up your application of SPF 30 (or more) products, even in the winter, when the sun can damage your skin just as much. To further protect yourself from the elements, remember to wrap up with scarves and gloves to protect your hands and the delicate skin on your neck. Try to find breathable materials so that there is no aggravation to your skin.
